Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to the 10th edition of the official (not that there is any measure of officiality of blog carnivals, but saying official sounds better) Virginia Blog Carnival. Please sit back, relax and enjoy the best that the Commonwealth of Virginia’s blogosphere has to offer.
Ross A. Catrow (a.k.a. Max Power) starts us off on Haduken.com with a very well-written piece that explains in concise terms what copyright law encompasses. He talks about this in relation to the Google Print controversy. I agree with him 100%. Great post!
Jack Rich says on his blog LiLPoH (What a name! And I thought The (not so) Daily Me was… unique…) that Tim Kaine is struggling to maintain “a careful mix” by mixing his religious beliefs with his liberal political beliefs and in the process compromising both.
Doug at Below the Beltway asks whether torturing avowed enemies of the United States is such a bad thing.
Rocinante of Rocinante’s Burdens marks himself down as a cynic, says there is no difference between the gubernatorial candidates and endorses himself for governor.
Bill Emory from the photoblog Black and White submitted a photo (and attendant verse) entitled Corn Trinity.
Jerry Fuhrman of From On High is really ticked at Tim Kaine for claiming to have created 15,000 jobs in his area while in reality people have been losing jobs left and right. He points out the irony of a “Sportsmen for Tim Kaine” sign that was placed in front of a sportswear factory that closed recently. He says he will be voting for Tim Kaine’s opponent.
Alton Foley from Collinsville (Not Charlottesville. Not Centreville. Not even Claudeville…Collinsville.) who blogs at I’m Not Emeril brags about his 1958 Chevy.
Chad Dotson of Commonwealth Conservative is running an election prediction contest. The contest winner will receive an (official!) Commonwealth Conservative t-shirt, mug, or mousepad. Go and give your prediction as to the winner of the governor, LG, and AG races and the margins by which they will win.
Rick Sincere of Rick Sincere News and Thoughts attended the Virginia Film Festival. He did a review of the film The Fever. An excerpt: “The Fever is an unremitting, unveiled attack on Western democratic capitalism. In Redgrave’s words, anyone who earns a middle-class income or more lives a life of unredeemable corruption.” During the post-viewing panel discussion of the film, Rick asked, “Have any of you read a book about economics since 1945?” For those of you that don’t know, Rick is an alum of the London School of Economics.
Norman Leahy of One Man’s Trash analyzes two campaign mailers sent out by Kilgore and Kaine and proclaims one of them the clever winner.
Steve at SW Virginia law blog writes 10 non-policy reasons that he is going to vote for Jerry Kilgore.
Richard of the northerncrown tells us about a morning visitor he received the other day.
Jon Henke of QandO gives an evenhanded look at the Iraq prewar intelligence and the impending investigations. He gives those involved some good advice.
Shaun Kenney lets us know that the myth of cow tipping is actually physically impossible.
Romeocat of CatHouse Chat shows us the beautiful quilt that she made.
Shipwrecked of Cries in the Night gives some commentary on the Alito nomination.
Kilo of Spark it Up!!! talks about the incredible bias (80% of media organizations endorsed Tim Kaine) of the MSM (especially newspapers) towards Tim Kaine during this campaign.
The Squeaky Wheel of Bearing Drift writes an open letter to France regarding their recent violent riots.
Waldo Jaquith has made a pledge not to gloat (too much) if his candidate wins. He has said that anything less than a 10 point win is not a “landslide”. He has pledged that he will refer to the next governor (regardless of party) respectfully. He has said that winning does not mean that everything was done right in the campaign with the obverse being true of the losing candidates.
That’s all folks! Please be sure to tune in next week for more of the finest of the Commonwealth.
