So did the snake lose its vocal chords, and the part of it’s brain that allowed it to speak at the same time? And was this all species of snakes cursed at the same time for the bad behaviour of one individual?

  • flip Says:

Hans -have I got this right? As you read Genesis, snakes were created something like lizards – long, thin with legs of some some kind. Then Satan posessed one of them, or took on the shape of one, and tempted Eve. And because of that God cursed all subsequent snakes, of all species to live on their bellies without legs?

    Is that about right?

Any news yet Hans – Have you go the Blind Watchmaker or not?

    Great.

Post a piccie if you like.

I was hanging on before reading your recommendation – I will start it today.

    Hi Hans,

I have put the fist bit of my review/reaction to the book you suggested here.

As you will see I am “stuck” after chapter 4 – let me know what you want me to do.

i think snakes did use to have legs because the word of god never lies because god is a true living god . so i really think dat is true as hard dat it is to belive it.

  • Marie Says:

yes flip all snakes were cursed for the action of one… is that a new concept for you? All women were cursed with painful chilbirth and men cursed to have to work the land to reap from it. Have you ever seen an animal give birth? Completely calm, and painless…. that is the way it was supposed to be for us too… but b/c of ONE woman now we all have to suffer. Not sure about the vocal cords though…

“b/c of ONE woman now we all have to suffer”:

what a depressing thing to read. it’s a sad reflection it is on the human spirit to see that there are people — some of them women! — who believe childbirth is a punishment issued by a misogynistic higher power. i can only imagine what marie’s convictions about the “rights” and “wrongs” of female sexual expression might be…

some people will always cling to the christian tradition. doing so in the face of issues like the “snakes/vocal chords” question is merely a testament to their faith. doing so in the face of (and even in the service of) the socially devastating gender roles mentioned above, well…that is an atrocity.

no good that will ever come of teaching our daughters that their bodies are dirty. when the bible is used to promote an androcentric model of the universe, human beings only fall farther away from god.

i believe that god is real but i don’t believe that the snakes had legs …only snakes who are born mutations with legs
