A minaret that loudly called the faithful Muslims to prayer five times a day. Dhaka is called the city of mosques; it has more mosques than any other city in the world.

Friends in Bangladesh hold hands, even men with men and women with women, and it has no negative connotations beyond friendship. This dude was a great little buddy and while holding hands with another guy made Arlin somewhat less than comfortable, he did so because he wanted to show friendship.

Arlin trying on his “skirt” that he (and the rest of us guys) got in Bangladesh. Shams was showing him how to put it on.

The Bangladeshi male skirt has three modes of operation: floor length skirt, mini-skirt, and diaper. Here Arlin is demonstrating (fortunately with pants underneath) the diaper mode. Each mode has its own unique folds and tucks.

Playing the “talking” game. A topic is announced and instantly both people talk about that subject without pause. Whoever skips a beat first loses.
