Once again, these are shots from the Bosporus Strait (from a ferry) of landmarks and beautiful buildings.

More below the fold…

The Galata Tower held up by an interesting foundation of buildings

The Galata Tower again. The Galata Tower was built by the Genoese.

Outrageous man! I’ve seen these places, but not quite like this! You do a lot of manipulation in some of these shots- highlighting and haloeing- can you describe briefly what you’re doing? thanks….

There are three “modes” in these pictures:
1. Regular
2. HDR (if you don’t know what HDR is, check out Trey’s great tutorial)
3. Black and white
I rendered each of these pictures in all three ways and then I layered the three in Photoshop and selectively blended them together.
For instance, the last picture, the bottom half of the picture is HDR and the top half (sky) is regular. HDR in that situation murders the sky into nasty slate gray. Combining the two gives it a slightly disconcerting look, but that’s the best my poor little well of creativity could do on that day.
Sometimes you can check out the filenames to get some info on what I did. If the filename contains “Enhancer” it means it’s HDR. If it contains “Enhancer” and an ampersand (”&”) it means I’ve combined HDR with either regular or B&W. Looking through most of the pics above, most of them are just straight HDR.
“A former customs house?” and “One of the many beautiful mosques in Istanbul” is HDR on the bottom and B&W on the top. The first two pictures are just sepia.
The reason these pics are so whacked is because a combination of the haze and glare just made the colors entirely unsatisfactory to me, so I really played with it. I can’t say I’m proud looking back on all of these pics, but I do prefer funky/disconcerting to simply low-quality.
