IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.
Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.
Ok, so maybe I should have supported Romney over McCain. (But the three-way race between Huckabee, McCain, Romney made things difficult and Romney dropped out before Huckabee...)

In early September, I began noticing a string of news stories about scientists rejecting the orthodoxy on global warming. Actually, it was more like a string of guest columns and long letters to the editor since it is hard for skeptical scientists to get published in the cabal of climate journals now controlled by the Great Sanhedrin of the environmental movement.
Still, the number of climate change skeptics is growing rapidly. Because a funny thing is happening to global temperatures -- they're going down, not up.
Like good ol' Y2K and all other myths, urban legends, and scams, global warming too will see its eventual downfall. Fortunately, the economic downturn is hastening it as people don't have spare change to indulge their fantasies. This is happening in Europe as a global warming accord is falling apart because of that.
