Jon Stewart has a hilarious section on The Daily Show that shows the hypocritical double standards of various conservatives in their charges of sexism against those attacking Palin. I never was comfortable jumping on the sexism bandwagon because I believed our original position vis a vis Hillary was right: a woman in politics can’t cry “Mommy! They’re picking on me!” That’s just counter productive. I believe that the smears against Palin aren’t because she’s a woman, but because she’s a conservative. I’m much more comfortable making a case against the smears on the basis of the smear itself rather than trying to delve into the motives of those involved. I think our political system would be much better off if everyone did the same. Obama’s followers need to stop the absurd racism charges and Palin supporters (and former Clintonistas) need to stop the sexism charges.
